AFTER A BACHELOR’S DEGREE

In the spirit of Italy’s so-called “Bologna reform” of undergraduate studies, a (three-year) bachelor’s degree is not usually considered adequately professionally qualifying; it was not conceived to provide qualifications sufficient for immediate entry into a profession.  A bachelor’s degree from IsFA in Lugano is no exception.  Therefore, after one’s bachelor’s degree, it may be appropriate to pursue a Master’s degree aimed at a particular career orientation.
A bachelor’s degree in philosophy from IsFA, as a degree awarded by a university accredited by the Swiss University Conference, allows one to further one’s studies in any Master’s program (toward a specialization or teaching degree) at other national or foreign universities.
One of the features of IsFA’s bachelor’s degree in philosophy, a feature that sets it apart from other philosophy degrees, is that it allows access not only to Master’s programs in philosophy but also, in accordance with the specialization of one’s chosen concentration, to a Master’s degree in other fields offered by other universities which have stipulated agreements with IsFA, in such fields as Communications or Economics.
Based on the various concentrations offered within our Bachelor’s of philosophy degree and the agreements stipulated by IsFA with other Universities, we offer below some indications of possible Master’s degree programs and their relative career orientations

  • Following a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy with a concentration in the History of Philosophy, we advise a Master’s in philosophy at any other university.  IsFA has reached agreements with The Philosophy Department within the Faculty (Facoltà) of Letters at the University of Geneva and with the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the Università Cattolica of Milan.  So, more specifically, this is how we recommend specializing at one of these universities:

  1. Following a Bachelor’s in philosophy with a concentration in theology—a concentration conceived for students considering the pursuit of their vocation—we recommend the Master’s in Theology from the Faculty of Theology of Lugano (FTL).  Website della FTL
  • Following a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy with a concentration in philosophy and religions, we advise one of two Master’s at FTL.
    • Master’s in Science, philosophy and theology of religions, offered by the Institute of Religions and Theology (ReTe) at FTL.  Career opportunities include teaching religion, inter-cultural and inter-faith mediation in government offices dealing with integration and immigration, etc.  Website del Master
    • Master’s in Comparative Law of Religions, offered by the International institute of Canon Law and Comparative Law of Religions (DiReCom) at FTL.  Career opportunities include all those requiring juridical competence in matters pertaining to the co-habitation of people belonging to different religions.  Website del Master
  • Following a Bachelor’s in philosophy with a concentration in Philosophy and New Media, as offered by IsFA in collaboration with USI’s Department of science of communication , one may enroll into any of the following Master’s programs offered by USI, bearing in mind that sustaining some integrating course exams may be required to obtain the Master’s degree:
